what is pranayama?

Pranayama is a Sankrit word often translated as ‘breathing techniques’. Its true meaning is the expansion (Ayama) or enhancement of your energy, vitality or life force (Prana) through a range of practices combining breath, gestures (Mudra) and energy seals (Bandha). Improved physical health, conservation of energy, better mood and quality of mind are just some of the benefits of Pranayama.

Victoria teaches simple pranayama practices, basic breathing and effective breathing in some of the weekly classes (see the timetable). As an experienced breather and professional yoga teacher, she uses a non-prescriptive, staged approach - ensuring the techniques are safe and accessible for everyone, including asthmatics and students experiencing anxiety or depression.

I am asthmatic and after joining Victoria’s classes my peak flow has started to improve. I’m really starting to experience some physical benefits.
